Dot NAME Domain Names

Introduced in 2001, the Dot NAME TLD is the single TLD supposed to be for personal websites only. These domain names can consist of personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other designations people are known by. At the beginning, solely third-level registrations were permitted, so if you planned to acquire john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already registered 3rd-level domain names remained running.
